John Emm is ACR Champion

John Emm was named Phil Creaney’s ACR Champion at the 2022 National ACR & Heat Pump Awards.

The award recognises a 58-year career in the industry which began with an engineering apprenticeship in 1964.

John bounced back from a major stroke in 2009 and, in addition to his day job as technical director of Pumps2Go, has remained a driving force behind the Hampshire Refrigeration Society even though he now lives in Cheshire. He has played a key role in organising one of the biggest golf tournaments in the industry calendar and the popular HRS breakfast briefings, and recently revived the society’s regional trade show.

More than 400 people attended the sell-out event at The Queens Hotel in Leeds, organised by ACR Journal and Heat Pumps Today and again hosted by comedian Bobby Davro.

There was double success for sister companies Secon Renewables and AUK Distribution, who repeated last year’s win in the Wholesaler / Distributor category and picked up a further award, alongside UK Alternative Energy, for Air Source Project of the Year.

Two wins also for Grant Engineering UK; the Aerona³ R32 air source range was named Heat Pump Product of the Year and its With You on the Journey campaign won the Marketing Initiative category.

Looking to the future, Gemma Weston of J&E Hall was chosen as ACR Trainee of the Year, while Stuart Perfect of GS Renewable won the new Heat Pump Trainee of the Year category.

Other notable wins saw Panasonic’s Etherea units with nanoe X technology revealed as ACR Product of the Year and BITZER’s Digital Network voted best ACR Ancillary Product.

Best Chiller Product went to Johnson Controls – YORK for the Redefined YVAA, while SURE Solutions’ Project Aquarius led the Refrigeration Project / Innovation category.

GEA Heating and Refrigeration Technologies won ACR Project of the Year for its compressor replacement project, with Cross Group picking up the award for ACR Contractor of the Year.

Climalife won the Training Provider category, with R A Brown Heating Services chosen as Heat Pump Installer of the Year.

GS Renewable won best Domestic Ground Source Project, and Calibrate Energy best Non-Domestic Ground Source Project.

Laura Bishop, chair of the Ground Source Heat Pump Association, was announced as RACHP Woman of the Year and Viessmann took Environmental Initiative for its ViMove project.
