Samsung Electronics Air Conditioner Europe B.V. (SEACE) have announced an extension to the WindFreeTM wall mounted range adding the WindFreeTM Pure 1.0, a wall-mounted air conditioner for residential homes equipped with an electrostatic PM1.0 filter for air purification.

The PM1.0 Filter is said to capture ultrafine dust up to 0.3 μm and inactivates certain types of bacteria that are captured (Escherichia coli: above 99%, Staphylococcus aureus: above 99%).  The sterilisation performance is validated by British certification expert Intertek, verifying that the filter sterilises more than 99% of the tested microorganisms captured by it (Removed 90% of the Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 and Escherichia coli ATCC 8739 bacteria on the heat exchanger compared with standard models that did not proceed with the Freeze Wash functionality).

Freeze Wash Functionality

The WindFreeTM Pure 1.0 includes Freeze Wash, a function that helps clean the unit and removes up to 90% of certain types of bacteria. The heat exchanger of the indoor unit is cooled to -15 °C to cover it with frost. When the coil is defrosted, the melting ice removes the bacteria within the heat exchanger. A notification can be sent via the Samsung SmartThings app when the heat exchanger needs to be cleaned.

Air Purity Indicator

A laser sensor, located on the unit's display, monitors the indoor air quality by measuring the concentrations of PM10, PM2.5 and PM1.0.  It can clean itself with an AI-enabled function. Air quality levels are indicated on the display, expressed using four different levels/colours, ranging from ‘very good’ (blue), ‘good’ (green), ‘poor’ (yellow) to ‘very poor’ (red).

Tracking Indoor Air Quality Via The SmartThings App

Indoor air quality can be continuously monitored via the SmartThings app. A dust sensor can register the current air quality in the room. A notification is sent when air pollution reaches the level ‘poor’ or ‘very poor’. With the user responding to turn on the air-purifying mode.  The Samsung SmartThings app and Bixby Voice Control4 let users turn their air conditioner on or off, select preferred cooling modes, schedule operations, and monitor energy consumption.

WindFreeTM cooling technology

Like the existing WindFreeTM wall-mounted models for residential usage, the WindFreeTM Pure 1.0 is equipped with Samsung WindFreeTM technology. Wind-Free™ technology enhances indoor comfort by using thousands of micro-holes to disperse fresh air uniformly without any unpleasant blasts of cold wind. In WindFree™ mode, the air is distributed softly and silently, creating a ‘Still Air’5 environment that allows people to live, work and relax comfortably without experiencing unpleasant cold drafts.

Xavier Feys, vice president pre-sales, business development, customer service and product management at SEACE said: “In the past year we have witnessed a growing concern for the impacts of pollution and unclean air along with an increased demand for improved indoor climate comfort in residential homes. With the introduction of the Air Purification Panels for light commercial and commercial spaces in 2020, we directly addressed these concerns. I am proud that with the launch of the WindFreeTM Pure 1.0, we are now able to offer our residential users a solution which ensures cleaner and purer air year-round.”
