Trane has announced that it has introduced a low GWP replacement for its scroll compressor line across Europe. The Conquest CGAX chillers and CXAX heat pumps for comfort and process applications are now available using R454B, replacing R410A.
R-454B has a GWP level of 466, the lowest among the refrigerants available today for scroll compressor technology, offering improved energy efficiency and matching properties, but 76% reduction in direct GWP impact against R-410A and 30% reduction against R-32.
Jose La Loggia, president of Trane in Europe, Middle East and Africa, commented: “At Trane, our promise has always been to deliver the right refrigerant in the right product at the right time, offering our customers a comprehensive environmental solution that is responsible for the environment and good for their business.
“Trane started offering HVAC systems with low and ultra-low GWP, next-generation refrigerants in 2014, designing products that meet our customers’ sustainability goals without sacrificing quality, reliability or performance. Today, the Conquest is the starting point of a new journey. We will continue launching new products in our scroll portfolio, and by moving directly from R-410A to R-454B, we offer our customers the highest possible GWP reduction of all the potential replacements.”
All units with the new R-454B refrigerant will be tested in the Trane testing facility located in the production and design centre in Epinal, France. The facility functions as a validation centre for new product development enabling the simulation of all, even extreme operating conditions encountered during the life of HVAC equipment. Tests conducted at the Trane testing lab verify the performance and provide customers with confirmation that the units’ are designed to deliver top of the industry reliability and quality.
