The competition is open to any apprentice to take part, you will need to register via the WorldSkillsUK website to enter, support from your employer and tutor is key, giving you time to train and compete. You will gain insight to new products and valuable feedback of your progress throughout.

1. Competition Venue Location and Registration


Venue: Rush Green Campus, Dagenham Road, Romford, Essex. RM7 0XU

Competition Date:  Tuesday 15th to Friday 18th November 2022.


Registration: We expect you to receive an email from Worldskills UK (WSUK) to print your accreditation badge. You need to bring your accreditation to the event venue reception desk.

3. Accommodation


All competitors and judges (if applicable) will be based at the following hotel.

Your booking has been confirmed and paid for on a single room with breakfast basis.

All rooms have WIFI, en-suite bathroom or shower facilities TV. There is no tea and coffee making facility.


It is a condition of the competition organiser that you are resident in the accommodation provided for the duration of the event.


Please remember that you are representing your college, employer and industry during this event, as such we welcome sensible, professional behaviour at all times, whether you be alone or in a group environment.

Should you wish to book a room prior to or after the booking organised by ourselves please let us know.


Note; Your sponsoring college / employer are responsible for arranging their own accommodation and subsistence at the event.


4. Meals and Subsistence

Breakfast is included in the hotel booking. A £15.00 evening meal allowance is afforded when dining in the company of the competition organiser.

Lunch and water will be provided at the competition stand on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

There will be additional facilities for you to purchase any snacks during the event from the venue host.


5. Travel to and from competition venue and hotel

If you are arriving at the venue by van/car; the host venue organisers will direct you to the point where you can unload your vehicle hand tools. See below if you are unloading a toolbox.


Arriving by public transport: please contact us if you are arriving by public transport.


We cannot accept any expenses for travel and parking for this event.


6. Transport to and from the competition.

The hotel has its own car park (local charges apply approx. £8/day). Each competitor must make their own way to the college venue each day. Car sharing is recommended.


Please remember to bring suitable clothing, hold all / rucksack for your personal possessions in case of rain.


7. Tools

Our aim is to reduce the competitor transportation cost of tools and equipment at all events. Therefore, we have secured sponsorship for the supply of many specialist tools and equipment for use in the regional heats and final.


Please observe the up-to-date recommended tool list attached, this is also on the WSUK competition web site. We recommend you liaise with your college tutor / employer as to what additional hand tools you need to bring with you.


Toolbox drop off and collection: All competitor hand tools need to be dropped off at the venue no later than 10am on Tuesday 15 November.


7. Dress Code


During competition build up and tear down (refer to site rules): It is mandatory for everyone involved in the build-up and break-down to wear high visibility jackets in addition to specific personal protective clothing i.e. safety foot wear, suitable coveralls/work wear and suitable gloves.


Within competition stand: Anyone in the competition stand will be required to wear appropriate safety work wear.


Please review the risk assessment, method statement and checklist for PPE that identifies footwear, coveralls, glasses/goggles and gloves that are suitable for the task and area of work.


You will be provided three ‘competitor T shirts’ to wear during the competition (1 for each competition day).


Worldskills UK welcome event; this is being organised by WSUK on the Tuesday after your familiarisation. This will be an opportunity to meet other skill competitors and take photographs for lasting memories.


8. Security of Personal Property:

Whilst the competition organiser takes every reasonable precaution to provide a secure environment, we cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage incurred. Please remove any valuable items from your stand when it is unattended and ensure that either your employer/college or you have suitable insurance cover in place for any loss or damage.


9. Place of Prayer:

A place of prayer is available at the venue.


10. Health and Safety


Please note that you are responsible for complying with the health and safety requirements set out by the Competition Organisers and the venue. WorldSkills UK and the COP do not have liability for any injury, loss or damage sustained while, or because of, competing in one of our competitions.


Please ensure your employer, college and training provider have sufficient insurance to cover you whilst you are in competition. Please send over a copy of your insurance cover for public indemnity.


11. Site rules

All personnel involved in the build-up and break-down of the competition/exhibition stands must have read the site rules, and attended the local toolbox talk on stand before you can work on the venue stand. You will be reminded of this as part of our Toolbox Talk during the induction and briefing sessions.

National Finals – Nov


The competition finals and WorldskillsUK wrap around events announced


Sixty-three finals take place at the same time at six colleges across the four nations of the UK, the skills vary from bricklaying in Edinburgh, aircraft maintenance in Cardiff , culinary arts in Belfast and Refrigeration and Air Conditioning is hosted at Barking and Dagenham College, London  


The finals will run on Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th November from 9am-5pm and Friday 18th November 9am – 12 noon.
