The Higgs Centre for Innovation in Edinburgh
Pre-insulated pipework from Flexenergy has been specified for a new business incubation initiative at the Royal Observatory in Edinburgh.

The Higgs Centre for Innovation, due to open early this year, will be run in partnership with the University of Edinburgh and apply business incubation best practice to big data and space technology, enabling start-ups to translate fundamental research into wider commercial impact.
Edinburgh-based building services consulting engineers Blackwood Partnership specified Flexalen pipework supplied by Flexenergy for the project. The Flexalen system, comprising pre-fabricated, pre-insulated welded pipework sections with electro and butt fusion joints, offered the opportunity of direct burial of the pipe runs.

In total, 100 metres of 125mm pipe and 200 metres of 90mm pipe were installed to convey LPHW heating water and chilled water from a remote plantroom and a remote combined water chiller/heat pump to the Higgs Mechanical Services plantroom.

The centre is named in honour of Professor Peter Higgs, the British scientist and Nobel Prize winner.
