At a White House event last week, Daikin announced that it is to begin making Package Terminal Air Conditioning (PTAC) systems that use R32 refrigerant.
The so-called PTAC systems are 'self-contained heating and cooling units' designed to be used in a wide range of commercial buildings. Daikin will begin production in early 2016. The units will be marketed using the company's 'Amana' brand.

Daikin also announced that it is aiming eliminate the by-production of R23 which happens when making R22 refrigerant at its factories around the world.

Last month, Daikin announced that it is offering free access to its 93 patents on R32 refrigerant to encourage other companies to develop products and solutions using the gas used in air conditioning and heat pump products.
