>B< Press fittings from Conex Bänninger were selected by Thomas Hanna & Co Ltd as the pipework jointing solution for the domestic services installation on the £22m new-build Devenish College in Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh.

The new secondary school, built on a greenfield site, is a split-level design over three floors and can accommodate up to 800 pupils. The accommodation includes six science labs, home economics rooms, art rooms, IT suites, general teaching rooms, staff rooms, as well as toilet facilities for pupils and staff. There is also a standalone sports block comprising of a four-court multi-purpose sports hall, fitness suite, teaching and changing facilities – all with direct access to the four pitches at the lower end of the site.

M & E Contractors Thomas Hanna & Co Ltd were responsible for the entire mechanical installation, with services including underfloor heating, domestic plumbing services, building management systems, ventilation and air conditioning - all fed from two purpose-built plantrooms.

Conex Bänninger was procured as their preferred supplier on this project.

Director Martin Hanna said: “We were impressed with the quality of the >B< Press fittings and the fact that they were ideally suited to the task, and meet with our requirements for the project.

“As with every project, using the right products for the job is vitally important. Conex Bänninger regional technical sales manager Tom Dickson visited us on site a couple of times to discuss the product and we were happy with the support he gave us. The fact that the >B< Press fittings are flame-free and provide a secure and leak-free joint was a crucial factor in using them for the pipework joints, and fitted on the domestic services for the hot, hot water return, and cold-water circuits.”

>B< Press fittings are available in copper and copper alloy and feature a 3-point press, creating secure, permanent joints that are suitable for multiple applications, with one press either side of the bead and a third on the O-ring. As a purely mechanical joint, they avoid any fire risk and require no hot work permit or the carrying of heavy gas bottles and other hazardous materials.

The main contractor on the project was Glasgiven Contracts in Co. Down. The M & E consultants were Caldwell Consulting in Belfast.
