ASERCOM, the European refrigeration and air conditioning components manufacturers' group, has published detailed guidance on the product information requirements of motors and variable speed drives integrated in refrigeration systems.
The Ecodesign Regulation (EU) 2019/1781 for electric motors and variable speed drives (VSD) will apply gradually from tomorrow (July 1, 2021).
In principle, integrated motors and drives whose energy performance cannot be tested independently of the product in which they are integrated are exempt from the minimum energy efficiency requirements. These are in particular stators – rotors integrated in hermetic and semi-hermetic compressors, drives in hermetic and semi-hermetic compressors and tailored drives that are used outside the refrigerant compressor but cannot be controlled independently.
Special product information obligations still apply and the ASERCOM statement describes in detail how manufacturers should comply with these obligations.
