Chemours says it is working with Carrier Transicold Europe to specify and adopt a low GWP refrigerant to replace R452A in transport refrigeration in 2021.

Chemours says its Opteon XL HFO refrigerants, including R454C (XL20) and R454C (XL40), are the lowest GWP and long-term options under F-Gas Regulation for transport refrigeration, reducing CO2 emissions by up to 85% when compared to R452A and 94% compared to R404A.
Diego Boeri, vice president of Chemours Fluorochemicals, said: "As the European F-Gas Regulation continues to move the HVACR industry toward more environmentally sustainable solutions, it is critical to provide lower GWP options to equipment manufacturers around the world. Transport refrigeration is critical to the viability of the global cold chain and we are excited to work in collaboration with Carrier Transicold to provide Opteon XL products as a more sustainable solution that meets the stringent performance needs of this application.''

Bertrand Gueguen, president, International Truck Trailer, Carrier Transicold, said: “Carrier is committed to providing efficient, sustainable solutions for its customers. The selection of a low-GWP refrigerant is the next logical step in the evolution of our industry. Innovation and technological advancement are in our DNA and we will continue to lead the way with the refrigerant of the future.”
