“Heating installers are fundamental to our industry; however, figures continue to show there remains a lack of younger generations entering the trade. To this end, we welcome the £50 million investment for apprentices announced in yesterday’s Autumn Statement, which will stimulate apprenticeship training. While further funding is a step forward, the Chancellor’s plans for this to be shared among engineering and other ‘growth’ sectors, mean we urge the Government to continue investing in the heating industry, which will be fundamental if the UK is to increase the number of engineers, and reach the 2028 target of 600,000 heat pump installations per year

“While we continue to support our loyal installers with the product and training solutions they need, as small businesses, often self-employed, we are delighted with the Chancellor’s announcement that Class 2 National Insurance is to be abolished, together with reductions to Class 4 National Insurance, delivering much needed savings for many in the sector.

“As with the rest of the industry, we now await further detail of the Autumn Statement and look forward to the new year where, with full expensing now permanent, we can further our UK investment.”
