The demand for lowest noise heat pumps has increased with installation support now more fundamental. With high energy bills impacting household budgets, finding efficient, cost-effective, lowest noise level heating solutions has become more important than ever.

Over 15 years Quiet Mark has built datasets of sound performance of products across global manufacturers to support public health, sharing the charitable remit of UK’s Noise Abatement Society (est. 1959) providing a free product sourcing platform for shoppers, homeowners and trade buyers, showcasing the quietest products on market year on year, with a singular mission to solve noise pollution one product purchase at a time, if we all check a product is quiet before buying it.

Quiet Mark® evaluates HVAC product eligibility holding up-to-date data of legally declared decibel levels of available heat pump models and other technologies to reflect the current market. All major domestic appliance products sold in the UK & Europe, including heat pumps, must come with an energy label which includes, among other information, the kW output and decibel level(s) according to specific ISO standards (BS EN 12102:2019 or equivalent) and taken in an identical manner across a category of product.

While aware that a heat pump can produce different levels of noise depending on a number of factors, it is the dB level as declared on the energy label which we take into consideration when making the Quiet Mark assessment, as well as the Kw output reflecting the testing parameters of the ISO standard.

The Quiet Mark® market-wide databases are split into different sub-categories to ensure product models are compared on a like-for-like basis. Heat pumps are split into air source and ground source models. They are then broken down further into kW outputs - Air Source heat pumps are sub-categorised into 4-6kW, 7-9kW, 10- 12kW, etc. outputs for comparison. Only the quietest models in a sub-category are eligible for Quiet Mark certification.

Quiet Mark’s raison d’etre is to support and encourage manufacturers’ aims to improve the acoustic quality of their products for the benefit of their customers well-being, showing this focused care and consideration. What is now becoming indisputable is that homeowners want the best heat pumps with lowest noise Certification.
