Smart Gas has announced it has been renamed Smart Energy in recognition of the changing face of the industry and the move towards more sustainable energy sources.

The training provider also revealed the introduction of a Level 3 Low Carbon Heat Pump Engineer Apprenticeship, aimed at teaching new recruits the skills needed for the future or offering people already in the industry the chance to upskill.

Meanwhile, learners can also access the Level 4 Greener Futures Project Management Apprenticeship via Smart Energy’s parent company, Realise Training Group and its Business Skills unit. The qualification can be utilised by energy leaders charged with reducing environmental impact in their organisation.

Smart Energy’s rebrand and new apprenticeship offerings were unveiled at the Energy & Utility Skills Conference at Hilton Birmingham Metropole.

Smart Energy was recently acquired by leading training provider Realise – and a £50,000 investment in the business’ Ashbourne centre has swiftly followed.

Gregg Scott, CEO of Smart Energy, said: “This rebrand and the launch of these exciting apprenticeships marks an exciting new chapter as we expand our training offering to service the evolving needs of the energy sector.

“The green revolution is in full flow and traditional gas heating will become less prevalent in the years to come as the country moves towards more sustainable air source heat pump solutions.

“We wanted a brand and a name which reflects our commitment to the future of the industry, which presents both challenges and opportunities.

“It is absolutely vital that the nation has the skilled engineers to cope with the change and we stand ready to help the industry on this exciting journey.

“This is just the start for Smart Energy. We have significant plans to expand the business into new geographical locations in the months to come, with announcements to follow very shortly.”

To coincide with the rebrand, Smart Energy is also preparing to launch a new website, which is set to go live in the next fortnight.

The interactive site will allow learners and businesses to find out more about the wide range of courses on offer, including Managed Learning Programme (MLP) in gas engineering, ACS Domestic Gas Training & Assessment, Unvented Hot Water Training, Water Regulations Training and LPG Training.

Since launching in 2016, Smart Gas has trained more than 1,500 engineers, including nearly 300 apprentices after becoming an approved apprenticeship training centre in 2020. Learners have come from Staffordshire, Nottinghamshire and Cheshire, as well as the local area.
