New search engine analysis from Glow Green reveals that interest in “heat pump air con” is rising sharply across the country, as households look for smarter ways to stay cool and cut energy bills ahead of the next heatwave.
Recent heat warnings from the Met Office have highlighted the risks that high temperatures pose to health and productivity, with a warning that temperatures could reach 40 degrees in certain parts of the country.
- London leads the country with a 55.9% increase in interest in heat pump and air conditioning searches.
- Cambridge followed with a 44% surge in search interest in keeping cool.
- Bristol came in third place with a 38.2%.
In contrast, the parts of the country that are least interested are Stockport, which experienced a 15.7% decline, followed by Oxford with 12.8%. Lichfield recorded the smallest increase, at 13.5%.
Lloyd Greenfield from Glow Green commented, “We are seeing a clear shift in how people think about keeping their homes comfortable. In the past, most households relied on fans, opening windows, and hoping for the best during a heatwave. Now, more people are actively searching for heat pump air conditioning solutions that can cool their homes in summer and provide efficient heating in winter from the same system.”
How to keep cool like a caveman and what to do when that’s not enough
Lloyd explains, “The caveman method is all about keeping the heat out and only letting cooler air in. Close curtains and blinds before rooms heat up, keep windows and doors shut during the hottest part of the day, and open them later in the evening when the outside temperature drops.”
“Turn off unnecessary lights and appliances that add extra heat, and try to work or relax in the shadiest room rather than a sun‑trap. Those simple habits can make a real difference during a short spell of hot weather, and they cost nothing to put into practice.
“In longer heatwaves, the kind the Met Office now warns about more often, or in south‑facing homes and flats with large windows, passive tricks will only get you so far. That’s where we’re seeing more people look at heat pump air con to stay comfortable without relying on noisy portable units or expensive electric heaters.”
“There is a growing awareness of heat pump technology, including grants and other financial incentives for qualifying homes. These incentives are designed to accelerate the switch to low‑carbon heating and cooling. They are helping to turn online curiosity into real‑world installations, especially as official heat warnings remind households to take steps to protect vulnerable people in hot weather.”
Lloyd concludes, "Exam season, hybrid working and repeated heatwaves mean comfort at home is no longer a nice‑to-have, it’s essential. With financial support available for heat pumps and more homeowners actively researching heat pump air con online, we expect interest to keep rising as people move from caveman cooling to climate‑smart comfort and look for long‑term solutions rather than short‑term fixes.”
