LCL Awards welcomes new Qualifications Manager (QM), Toni Oakley-Tulk. Toni joins the Awarding Organisation with a wealth of experience in engineering and training, including positions at British Gas, Homeserve and Viessmann.
“I’m looking forward to being involved in shaping some of (LCL Awards’) qualifications, fine-tuning them to make them even better,” said Toni. “Having had several roles delivering training in a range of educational settings, I’m ready for a change, supporting centres in delivery, whilst upholding the quality and standards which are so important in our sector.”
STEM from the start
Toni has worked as an engineer since leaving school and has always had a passion for machines, inspired by her father, who was a motor mechanic. She started her career as an apprentice for MG Rover but moved to British Gas when MG went into administration. Initially as an apprentice and then as an engineer, Toni spent almost a decade at British Gas before she switched to the classroom (she has a Level 5 Certification in Education (Cert ed) and Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS)), training engineers for Homeserve and, most recently, Viessmann.
Neill Ovenden, Operations Director for LCL Awards, said: “We are delighted to welcome Toni to LCL Awards. She brings the ideal mix of understanding the challenges of being both an installer and of what it takes to train installers. It’s an exciting time; interest in renewable training in particular continues to grow, and we are pleased to be working with the CIPHE to develop new plumbing apprenticeship standards for levels 2 and 3, ensuring the next generation of installers get the right grounding for a successful future in building services engineering. Toni has already got involved in related working groups.”
As well as her role as QM, Toni will be responsible for LCL Awards centres that offer training in renewables and plumbing, as an External Verifier (EV).
Toni works from her home in North Shropshire, where she lives with her husband and two children. When not at work, she can be found following motor racing or working on her own classic car – a Mini.
