Bletchley Park museum and heritage attraction is looking for a mechanical contractor to deliver a major project on their site in Milton Keynes.

The project to decommission and decarbonise the aging heating plant which is primarily gas oil fired and replace it with High Temperature Air Source Heat Pumps, follows Bletchley Park successfully securing £2.4m in funding from the Museum Estate and Development Fund earlier this year.

A site-wide heat pump system will replace gas infrastructure and convert existing plant rooms within the sites Block E Learning Centre and Grade II listed Mansion.

Bletchley Park Trust is seeking expressions of interest from Mechanical Contractors to work with on this project and are keen for firms to express interest as soon as possible with work planned for this Summer.

Phil Atkins, Bletchley Park’s Head of Site Works says “This funding allows essential maintenance to take place to our heating systems and for the Bletchley Park Trust to replace the old boilers with more environmentally friendly solutions, helping to create a greener future for Bletchley Park. We are looking forward to the challenge of installing the plant and are seeking suitable contractors who would be interested in working together with us on this unique project.”

A feasibility design which formed the basis of the funding application from Bletchley Park allows for the installation of Air Source Heat Pumps to meet the heating demand of the buildings, while protecting the listed fabric of the historic environment into which they will be installed.

Bletchley Park were awarded one of the largest amounts from the Museum Estate and Development Fund (MEND) administered by Arts Council England. The funding is available to accredited museums that do not receive direct government funding. The funding is for maintenance work, accessibility improvements and infrastructure upgrades.
