Student engineers at Bath College have been road testing a new range of precision hand tools from JAVAC.

The JAVAC Edge tools are constructed from lightweight, high-grade aluminium and feature time-saving features which JAVAC says are inspired by engineers, making them perfect for professionals on site

The range includes a multi size tube expander set, the only set available with a ¼” expander head. The tube bender features a unique dual hinge design which resets the handle position for extra leverage, making the second bend to 180° simple.

The 2 in 1 flaring and swaging tool features the patented Diamond Flaring Cone which has a unique ‘socket fitting’, allowing the cone to spin as you turn the handle to create a perfectly smooth flare with minimal burr. The swaging adaptors have a ‘round fitting’ ensuring the heads do not spin, creating an accurate clean swage. This multi-function tool also means less to carry in the van.

JAVAC decided to road test the new range by giving it to those to who will be using them on a daily basis to try. Dave Kingston, Aspen Pumps Group Training Officer, went to Bath College to give the student engineers a chance to try out the new range for themselves. He said: "The guys had a ball playing around with the tools and they were impressed with the quality and design. Features such as the ability to get the same cut every time by setting tube cutters to the exact pressure, or being able to create a counter bend exactly on the crossbow bender were big hits with the apprentices.''

As a celebration of the launch, the college also received three brand new sets of JAVAC Edge expander sets. Dave added: "The three expander sets were much appreciated and they liked the way the handle pivots and controls the expansion of the tube. The Edge Expander creates the perfect swage and the tube fits tight. Other expanders can make the swage too big and the fit is sloppy; in this case the brazing rod can drop through and end up in the compressor as little balls of weld, causing warranty issues.

"JAVAC has a long history of supporting colleges with training and training products. Being able to show the next generation of engineers the advancement in precision hand tools and the difference that they could make on site was great to see.''
