The 2019 BESA National Conference will feature two key sessions for building engineering contractors linked to the future of cooling. The one-day conference, Competence, compliance and climate change – turning theory into practice, held at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel, London on November 21, will consider how the building engineering industry can meet many of the technical challenges it now faces.
Almost 100 people attended two seminars in Birmingham hosted by Logicool and REFCOM designed to cut through the confusion surrounding the F-Gas legislation.
One session was for contractors and the other for resellers, which included manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors. The presentations focused on a number of misconceptions regarding the wording and interpretation of the legislation.
Karl Richardson of Logicool began by highlighting a number of statements with the potential to cause confusion and asked Graeme Fox of REFCOM to interpret the legislation correctly.
The presentation and conversation then developed to focus on a number of key questions, dubbed F-Gas Myths and Realities. These primarily focused on certification, as well as the sale and resale of refrigerant and equipment to trade and non-trade:

Late payment is causing a mental health epidemic among small business owners and staff is a national scandal, according to the Building Engineering Services Association (BESA).
A survey by the Prompt Payment Directory (PPD) shows that a growing number of owners, managers and directors are suffering from panic attacks, anxiety, depression and feelings of extreme anger due to cash flow problems.
Almost half of respondents said problems with cash flow had affected their mental health – a rise of 27% on last year. Some admitted to contemplating suicide because they were struggling to get invoices paid on time and/or in full.
