Compressor manufacturer, The Bitzer Group, today announced that its owner and CEO, Peter Schaufler, passed away aged 74 recently.
Peter Schaufler had great entrepreneurial drive founding, for example, a joint venture with a Chinese company in 1994 before the country's economy took off. His values of hard work, ingenuity and high quality characterised the era, which are now embedded in Bitzer's business. Peter Schaufler always looked haed and rose to the challeneges, which enabled him to find new markets and bring new products, such as screw compressors in 1983 and scroll compressors in 2002.
He started The Schaufler Foundation in 2005 which brought entrepreneurship, science, research and art together. The foundation is the main sponsor of Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences’ Valerius Füner Prize, which recognises mechanical engineering students that demonstrate outstanding achievements in air conditioning, refrigeration and environmental technology. His foundation sponsors students in other German universities.
Senator Schaufler was deeply interested to see refrigeration and air conditioning advance through academic research. As a result, he created the BITZER Chair of Refrigeration, Cryogenics and Compressor Technology at the TU Dresden in 2007.
He and his wife, Christiane Schaufler-Münch, supported their community through donations and gave the public access to their substantial art collections hosted at the SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen art museum.
Germany recognised Peter Schaufler's contributions to culture and science in 2010 when it awarded him the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Senator Peter Schaufler's family held a quiet funeral ceremony recently.
