Chemours says it is working with Carrier Transicold Europe to specify and adopt a low GWP refrigerant to replace R452A in transport refrigeration in 2021.
Chemours says its Opteon XL HFO refrigerants, including R454C (XL20) and R454C (XL40), are the lowest GWP and long-term options under F-Gas Regulation for transport refrigeration, reducing CO2 emissions by up to 85% when compared to R452A and 94% compared to R404A.
A significant number of European retail professionals who responded to a survey by Emerson said they were unaware of upcoming regulatory changes related to the phase down of HFCs as refrigerants.
The study showed that the retail industry was lagging behind schedule due to a lack of clarity in regulatory changes and replacement technologies available, with 40 per cent of respondents unaware of the changes and nearly half (44 per cent) either yet to make the shift, or unsure. However, 81 per cent of respondents viewed the shift from HFCs to natural refrigerants as a positive change.
