NIBE welcomes HPA report

​NIBE Energy Systems has welcomed the publication of a report setting out the role of heat pumps in delivering a Net Zero future.
 
The Heat Pump Association (HPA) report underlines the urgent need to increase the installation of heat pumps across the UK. As a member of the HPA, NIBE has fed into the development of the paper and says the government must take advantage of upcoming policy decisions to encourage the deployment of heat pumps and begin the process of heat decarbonisation.

Raynham Hall in Norfolk
A 17th Century property in Norfolk has invested in a new renewable system to cut costs and deliver more effective heating.

The project at Grade 1 listed Raynham Hall, near Fakenham, has seen renewable heating specialist Finn Geotherm replace an old and ineffective oil boiler with a new ground source heat pump.

A new feature at this year's Low Carbon Homes event in Manchester next month will see the heat pump industry demonstrating its role in helping the city to meet its 2038 zero carbon ambition.

In association with Manchester City Council, Manchester Climate Change Agency and other stakeholders, Low Carbon Homes opens on November 14 at Manchester’s Friends Meeting House to tackle the particular challenges of retrofit across the city region.  A major new feature for 2019 is Heat Pump Focus - an event within an event - featuring heat pump associations, manufacturers, system designers and installers.

Stiebel Eltron and Pure Renewables have provided a heat pump solution for an award-winning retrofit project at Welham Hall in North Yorkshire.

The installation consists of two Stiebel Eltron WPF 13S heat pumps, which provide heating and hot water to the whole property using a nearby lake as a water source.

The Heat Pump Association (HPA) has joined the Ground Source Heat Pump Association in backing a report from the Science and Technology Committee, which warns that the UK is in danger of missing its net-zero emissions targets.
 
The report, Clean Growth: Technologies for meeting the UK’s emissions reduction targets, outlines 10 key policy areas that need to be addressed if the UK is to deliver on its net-zero ambitions.

The Ground Source Heat Pump Association has welcomed a report on clean growth from the Science and Technology Committee, which highlights a lack of Government policies in place to deliver the net zero emissions target by 2050.

Among the ‘areas of shortfall’ identified are a lack of promised consultation on changes to Building Regulations to improve energy efficiency. The report also points out that the Renewable Heat Incentive scheme is due to close in 2021 but no replacement scheme has yet been announced.

Kensa expansion to create new jobs

British ground source heat pump manufacturer Kensa Heat Pumps has begun construction of a new 900m2 manufacturing and office facility on its current site in Cornwall.

Coinciding with its 20th year anniversary, the new premises at the former Mount Wellington Mine will enable Kensa to produce 30,000 ground source heat pumps every year, which it says will provide carbon savings equivalent to taking 60,000 cars off the road.

Challenges ahead for net zero target

The heat pump industry has welcomed the government’s announcement that the UK will become the first major nation to commit to reaching a net zero carbon emissions target by 2050, but warned of significant challenges ahead.

The Heat Pump Association (HPA) says that clear policy and a widespread adoption of ultra low-carbon heating systems are urgently required in order for the target to stand a realistic chance of being met.
