Brose, the automotive component supplier, introduced a new electric air conditioning system at the International Motor Show in Germany this week which provides comfort cooling for electric and hybrid vehicles.
The Brose electric air conditioning compressor overcomes this challenge by providing comfort cooling to the same level, even for vehicles with an electric drive. Brose supplies a motor, ECU and compressor in a single unit. It can be used in 48-volt and high-voltage electrical systems. It can use high and low GWP refrigerants (e.g. CO2). It uses a scroll compressor to provide constant flow rate for the coolant. It is quiet too.
In the near future, Brose says the electric air conditioning compressor will be usable as a heat pump in electric vehicles. With CO2 as the refrigerant, the system can heat the inside of the vehicle without much impact on the vehicle's range.
