The new hybrid chiller system provides outstanding energy efficiency in the three-storey, art, design, fashion, photography, music and games design facility.
Lowe & Oliver installed the heat pump-based chiller, which was specified by consultantHamson JPA, on the basis of its strong energy efficiency and simultaneous chilled and hot water provision. The system harvests energy from the whole building.
The EXP is a new type of hyrbrid chiller heat pump and heat recovery system. The polyvalent technology makes best use of the available energy and heat recovery with 'mulit-compartmented' buildings. The heat pump chiller provides both high efficiency and comfort to its occupants.
The sytem combines three technologies, namely the high efficiency heat pump-based chiller, an energy recovery system, and a sophisticated control system.
The control system manages the optimisation and regulation to make sure as little energy is used as possible according the set conditions.
The College's Creative Industries Centre needed simultaneous heating and cooling throughout the building for most of each year. Given this, the EXP system looked ideal. For the solution, the consultant specified the EXP TXAETY 2100 to meet the load profiles, which as a cooling capacity of 105kW and a heating capacit of 83kW.
The unit's built-in intelligent controls made sure the system delivered the required heating and cooling in the building, its demands of which often changes. The system's controls means there is minor need for a BMS to intervene.
For chilled and hot water, there are separate heat exchangers in the chiller. This is different from other heat pump-based chiller systems. The EXP system has dedicated pipe work for the hot and chilled water circuits
