The European Union's laws to limit greenhouse gas emissions, the so-called F-Gas Regulations, are often said to be flouted by unscrupulous organisations who illegally import and distribute refrigerants into the EU. Honeywell believes that the CO2 equivalent of around 10 million metric tonnes of illegal refrigerants come into the EU in 2015. The company stated that it would have the same environmental impact as adding 5 million cars to the roads.
Honeywell's Dr. Patrick Amrhein, marketing director of the company's fluorine products in Europe, said:
“This program is part of Honeywell’s ongoing efforts to help customers ensure they are using refrigerants and other materials that comply with this new regulation.
“By buying from a Honeywell Authorised Dealer, customers can avoid putting their businesses at legal risk of violating the regulation by using an illegal refrigerant. Honeywell is continuing to build awareness of the risks and legal consequences of using illegally imported refrigerants, and is working closely with EU authorities to actively prevent illegal imports to the EU market.”
