Gareth Vaughan, past President and chairman of the Building Engineering Services Association (the BESA), has died, aged 62, the association announced today.
Gareth Vaughan joined E Poppleton & Son Ltd, the Colwyn Bay-based ductwork specialist, in 1973 and rose to be its managing director in 1989.
Chairman of the BESA North West region between 1994 to 1996, becoming a Council member and Executive Committee of the Ductwork Group in 1997. Gareth joined the Membership Committee that year, becoming vice chairman in 2014, and chairman of the Ductwork Group in 2000.
In July 2008, Gareth was elected president on the BESA. When his term finished, he took on the role of 'chief negotiator' for the Operative National Agreement and chaired the Operative Standing Committee in late 2009.
The BESA chief executive Paul McLaughlin said:
"Gareth was of tremendous help to me when I began my journey with the association last year, and his dedication, passion and involvement will be keenly missed by many. Our thoughts are with his wife Sue at this sad time."
