The recall extension affects around 3,500 units, which follows on from the initial recall in August 2014 of 233,500 PTAC units. Many of them are used in hotels, motels, apartments and commercial spaces. The units are under the Amana, Century, Comfort-Aire, Goodman and York International brands.
The affected units are its Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner/Heat Pumps (PTAC) and Room Air Conditioners (RAC). The company is advising customers to immediately switch off and unplug the air conditioning and heat pumps units and call the company to ask for a free, replacement power cord.
The serial numbers users need to look for range between 0701009633 and 0804272329. Customers can find the serial number by lifting the front cover of PTAC units or the grille of RAC units. Additionally, any PTAC and RAC units that have a beige power cord labelled with a four-digit date code in the MMYY format and ending in 06 or 07, or ranging from 0108 through 1808 are included in this recall.
Domestic customers will get free installation of the power cord, as well as inspection of PTAC control board to see if it is damaged. Owners will have a new control board installed for free if there is damage. Goodman will be in touch directly with commercial customers for the power cord installation and control board inspection. Control boards damaged by the faulty power cords owners will receive a replacement which they will need to install themselves.
RAC units in the recall do not have a control board.
