Representatives of the Greek refrigeration and air conditioning industry have written to their government over concerns surrounding the illegal trafficking of fluorinated refrigerants.
It is not the first time that Greece has experienced problems with illegal imports and the industry believes soaring prices are leading to an escalation of the trade through its borders, with the impact potentially felt throughout Europe.
A significant number of European retail professionals who responded to a survey by Emerson said they were unaware of upcoming regulatory changes related to the phase down of HFCs as refrigerants.
The study showed that the retail industry was lagging behind schedule due to a lack of clarity in regulatory changes and replacement technologies available, with 40 per cent of respondents unaware of the changes and nearly half (44 per cent) either yet to make the shift, or unsure. However, 81 per cent of respondents viewed the shift from HFCs to natural refrigerants as a positive change.
