Refrigerants are a perennially popular topic on the ACR Journal website. Given that refrigerants form the basis of the air conditioning, refrigeration and heat pump industry, it is hardly surprising.
But, what are people actually searching for online when it comes to refrigerants? We thought we would take a look at some figures using Google Trends to understand how much interest is generated in refrigerants online.
Finding the Right Search Term
Interest in A2L refrigerants is growing in the ACR industry with F-Gas legislation pushing companies to be more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
The big shift in refrigerants for air conditioning systems is the phase out of R22. Installers and contractors have a number of options available to them including R32.
In contrast, search for 'R22' on Google and it knows exactly what you are looking for. In fact, the number of searches for R22 is ten times that of searches for R32 per month.
Given that there is interest in R32, it is still not as well known as R22 refrigerant, if these results are anything to go by. The air conditioning and refrigeration industry still has some way to go before it fully understands the implications of R32.
When Do People Search for Refrigerants?
December is definitely the 'off-season'. Searches slump on all topics concerning refrigerants. That is to be excepted.
Nevertheless, the number of searches using 'heat pump' dwarfs those about refrigerants overall and is the exact opposite in seasonality. Again, that is nothing new to anyone in the industry. However, it does suggest that contractors and installers not involved in heat pumps are missing a huge opportunity.
Which Refrigerants Interest Searchers?
Where Does the Interest in Refrigerants Come From?
Most searches on R22 derive from US cities, including Houston (top), Dallas, Atlanta, Washington DC and Chicago. But, the second most popular city for searches in Auckland in New Zealand. Is there a revolution happening in the land of the 'All Blacks'?
Switch to 'R410a' and you get an entirely different picture.
Italy is the search capital for R410a with Rome and Milan either leading or in the top five search cities, respectively. Singapore is the number two location, with Buenos Aires in the top five cities for this refrigerant.
